With new regulations being introduced for all electric vehicle chargers from the end of this year, EV drivers, electrical retailers and installers should ensure that any new charger they are considering meets all of them, warns award-winning smart charging company Ohme.
The latest 1: Security compliance regulations that are being applied from 31 December 2022 are a further extension to the regulations introduced by the Office for Product Safety and Standards in June 2022. This latest addition covers cybersecurity and tamper-protection as set out by ETSI EN 303 645 and British Standards PAS 1878. All of Ohme’s smart chargers already meet these requirements ahead of the deadline.
“Whether you’re an electric vehicle driver looking to buy a new smart charger, an electrical retailer offering them for sale or an installer, from the end of this year all new EV chargers are legally-bound to meet these regulations,” says Ohme CEO David Watson. “Drivers, retailers and installers should ensure that they’re buying a product that meets the latest regulations and ask to see the Statement of Compliance for the charger to confirm that. Along with the regulations from June, if any chargers don’t meet these latest regulations, then customers are at risk of paying a new price for what is effectively an old product.”
Any installers fitting non-compliant EV chargers after 31 December 2022, will have to complete and submit additional derogation paperwork to the Office for Product Safety and Standards for each non-compliant charger they fit – something they don’t have to do with any of Ohme’s chargers.
Ohme’s smart chargers enable drivers to take advantage of all the times of low-price charging, not just particular set hours by connecting with the grid in real time automatically. Using the Ohme app, drivers can set the Home Pro to charge their vehicle when prices drop below a set point. Ohme also allows drivers the option to charge their car with renewable energy generation on the grid is at its highest.
